noor in slow motion.

noor in slow motion.

Woah. Look at this. I made a thing! Welcome to Noor of Bengal! This is my shop. Here you’ll find hand-made goods crafted in Bangladesh and Canada. from traditional hand-sewn kanthas to hand-pinched ceramics to oil skin storage buckets to hand-crafted jewellery to hand-dyed cloth — this store is filled with sustainable, ethical wares. A portion of our profit goes back into our community both in Canada and Bangladesh. And with every item comes a story. The story of Noor who travels through Bengal and beyond to uncover the magic within her — to see the other edge of the world — to know the stories of her ancestors, the music of her land, the dance of her people.

*theme song (like a really cool one)*

I’m embracing slow motion. Slow dreaming. Slow making. Slow opening. I’m taking my time with the decisions I’m making with the storefront and it’s really nurturing my intuition and feeding my passion. I am so excited for the things to come - collaborations with Canadian and South Asian artists, storytelling, cultural learning and re-learning. This is going to be a pretty magical place.

Noor of Bengal is joining the ranks of socially-minded small businesses. A portion of every sale is returned to our communities in Canada and Bangladesh. we understand the power of income redistribution and we’re putting our money where our mouth is. We’re looking past fast and wasteful (although very keenly aware of it and its causes and consequences) to slow and sustainable. We pay artisans fairly, ethically, and honestly and work with organizations that help us do that. I’m excited to hold power in this way and use it to nurture a new normal.

I’m sabah. I’m a Bengali treaty inhabitant from a village in Chittagong called Chunati. I am the first person in my family to be born and grow up in Canada but I’m not alone here. I visit Bangladesh as often as I can but not as often as I like. Ah, I could go on! But it’s always good to take a little break, slow down, and enjoy how beautiful everything is now.
